Obi, Bala Mohammed Hold Closed-Door Talks as Alliance Drama Deepens

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi touched down in Bauchi on Thursday, stepping straight into high-stakes political talks with Governor Bala Mohammed amid shifting opposition alliances.

Obi, now a leading figure within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, was received at the Government House before heading into a closed-door meeting with the governor at the Presidential Lounge.

The News Chronicle gathered that the discussions, still ongoing at the time of filing, are expected to centre on evolving political alignments and early maneuvering ahead of future elections.

Both leaders are anticipated to address the press after the session.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of Governor Mohammed’s fluid political positioning.

The chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum had on March 31 signalled a preference for the ADC while hosting a delegation led by Babachir Lawal.

But within 24 hours, the narrative shifted. Mohammed welcomed Nentawe Yilwatda, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, alongside Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, a move that has fueled speculation about his next political move.

Thursday’s Obi-Mohammed meeting is now firmly in focus, with observers watching for signals that could reshape the opposition landscape.
