Obasanjo advocates for devolving power and resources to states amidst economic crisis

Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has suggested that the federal government should share power and money more with states and local areas.

He thinks this could help manage money better and fix the country’s economic problems. Obasanjo believes that Nigeria’s economic issues come from people not working hard and the government not using money well.

He spoke at an event where a book called “Court and Politics” was being introduced. The book talks about politics and the legal system, written by Dr. Umar Ardo.

Obasanjo said that Nigeria has been using the same system for 24 years, but it’s not good enough. He thinks giving more power and money to states and local areas could help.”

A former Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, spoke on Obasanjo’s behalf. He explained that if power and money are shared more, there will be less competition at the top, and local areas can manage things better.

Another person at the event, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, talked about the problems with how courts decide on political issues.

He said that courts often focus too much on rules instead of the real problems. Gabam, who leads a political party called the Social Democratic Party, thinks this causes problems in elections and politics.

He also said that Nigerians need to speak up and tell the government when things aren’t right.

Being afraid won’t fix anything, he added. Gabam wants people to be brave and demand better from their leaders.
