Oba Balogun of Ibadanland passes away

The esteemed Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, has passed away at the age of 81 following a brief illness.
Oba Balogun, who held the revered title of Oba Dr. Mohood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland, passed away late Thursday evening at the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, according to an official statement from Governor Makinde.
Just days before his demise, he was actively engaged in official duties, including presiding over meetings and making decisions crucial to the governance of Ibadan. However, on Wednesday morning, he was rushed to the hospital after experiencing symptoms of a slight malaria fever, marking the onset of the illness that ultimately claimed his life.
Oba Balogun, was a figure of importance in Ibadanland and was known for his contributions to his community.
Governor Makinde, in a statement expressing his condolences, described Oba Balogun as an epitome of royal excellence and a great achiever, noting the indelible marks he left on Ibadanland during his relatively short reign of just over two years. The Governor’s message was echoed by many who mourned the loss of a remarkable leader and cultural icon.
The late Olubadan leaves behind a legacy of education, public service, and business acumen. A British-trained Ph.D. holder, former university lecturer, and successful businessman, Oba Balogun was the first highly educated individual to ascend to the throne of the Olubadan in Ibadan. His passing marks the end of an era for Ibadanland, leaving a void in its leadership and a profound sense of loss among its people.
As preparations are made for his funeral, tributes continue to pour in for Oba Lekan Balogun, whose memory no doubts will endure as a beacon of wisdom, integrity, and dedication to the betterment of Ibadanland.
