NYSC Makes One-Year Industrial Training Evidence Mandatory for HND Graduates

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates from polytechnics and monotechnics will now be required to present evidence of completing the mandatory one-year Industrial Training (IT) before they can be registered for the National Youth Service Scheme.
The directive was contained in a circular dated July 15, 2026 obtained by The News Chronicle on Thursday, addressed to Rectors, Provosts, and Registrars of Polytechnics and Monotechnics nationwide.
According to the NYSC, the decision followed observations that some graduates proceeded to HND programmes without completing the compulsory one-year Industrial Training required after obtaining the National Diploma (ND).
The scheme stated that the new requirement is aimed at preserving the integrity of Nigeria’s educational system and ensuring compliance with academic regulations governing HND admissions.
Under the directive, all prospective corps members who are HND graduates must present valid proof of completing the one-year Industrial Training before they will be registered at any NYSC orientation camp.
The NYSC also urged heads of tertiary institutions to publicise the directive widely among students to prevent eligible graduates from being denied registration during the mobilisation process.
The circular was signed by Isa Walida Siddique, Director (Corps Mobilisation), on behalf of the Director-General of the NYSC.
