NYSC Health Initiative in Katsina Benefits 2,000 Rural Residents

—

Over 2000 people living in Bagiwa community in Katsina state got help from a health program run by NYSC and a group called KNCV-a. They checked, diagnosed, and treated people with tuberculosis and other sicknesses.

The program, called NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD), started with the idea of Brig Gen YD Ahmed, the Director General of NYSC, to give free medical care to people in rural areas who can’t afford it easily.

Hajiya Aisha Muhammad, who leads NYSC in Katsina state, said this during an event on Thursday.

She said the program has helped many communities in Katsina and Nigeria since Brig Gen YD Ahmed became the head of NYSC.

Aisha said Bagiwa community was chosen because they support NYSC members who work there.

She wants other communities to be like Bagiwa and get help too. NYSC’s goal is to help communities grow through their Community Development Service (CDS).

Aisha asked people in Bagiwa to use this chance to get good medical care and cooperate with the doctors and nurses.

Alhaji Samaila Suleiman, who leads NYSC’s Community Development Service, said the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers is part of their community work. They choose communities based on how much they help with NYSC’s programs.

Dr. Yunusa Bagiwa, the leader of Mani local government, thanked NYSC and the NGO for helping the community with healthcare. He promised to keep supporting NYSC members working in his area.
