NYSC Denies Funding Allegations in Zamfara Kidnapping

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has refuted widespread claims that the Akwa Ibom State government and certain family members funded the liberation of the kidnapped prospective corps members in Zamfara State.

According to Eddy Megwa, the NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, the release of the kidnapped individuals on their way to the orientation camp in Sokoto State was primarily a result of collaborative efforts between security agents and the NYSC.

Megwa clarified in a press statement that neither any state government nor individual paid any ransom before the release. The NYSC management is actively covering the medical expenses of the prospective corps members during their recovery. The statement further emphasized that the NYSC dissociates itself from assertions that any state government, including Akwa Ibom, contributed funds for their release.

Megwa warned against falling victim to misleading information circulating about various bank accounts and names soliciting financial donations for the purported ransom. The NYSC urged parents, family members, and the public not to be deceived by unscrupulous individuals seeking to exploit the situation for fraudulent purposes.

Despite the challenging circumstances, the NYSC management highlighted their success in securing the release of four out of the eight kidnapped prospective corps members without making any financial payments. They reassured the public that efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining individuals held by the kidnappers.
