Nursing Mother, Baby Feared Dead In Adamawa Boat Mishap

A boat carrying five persons have capsized in Gamadio River, Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State, killing a nursing mother and her baby.

It was gathered that three were however rescued in the incident that occurred on Monday, December 11, 2023.

While inspecting the scene of the boat mishap, Deputy Governor of the state, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, stressed the need for the enforcement of the use of life jackets by canoe users for the safety of passengers and goods.

The Deputy Governor, who was received by the Chairman, Numan Local Government Area, Christopher Sofore, charged relevant stakeholders to ensure the provision and enforcement of the use of life jackets by canoe users to safeguard lives and property in the event of any unfortunate occurrences.

Professor Keletapwa called on the stakeholders to always ensure prompt reporting of such incidents to the police and other relevant agencies.

According to her, the Adamawa state government will continue to come up with policies towards securing the lives and property of residents.

Also commenting on the incident, the LG chairman, Sofore informed the Deputy Governor that out of the five people on board, three were rescued while a woman and her child are still missing.

The Chairman stated that a rescue and search mission is ongoing to find the two other dead victims.
