NUBOSS Condemns Attack on Federal Polytechnic Monguno Hostel, Demands Stronger Security

The National Union of Borno State Students (NUBOSS), through the Office of its Vice President, has condemned the recent attack on the students’ hostel at the Federal Polytechnic, Monguno, describing the incident as a disturbing threat to students’ safety and education.

In a statement obtained by The News Chronicle on Sunday and signed by the union’s Vice President, Amb. Maryam Alhaji Kunduli Damboa, NUBOSS said the attack, which reportedly targeted students of the institution, underscored the persistent security challenges facing educational institutions and communities in Borno State.

The union noted that security personnel successfully foiled an attempted mass abduction and rescued many students, although the incident reportedly resulted in casualties.

NUBOSS expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the attack.

“Education should never be threatened by violence. Every student deserves to pursue academic excellence in a safe and secure environment without fear of attacks or intimidation,” the statement read.

The union called on the Federal Government, the Borno State Government, security agencies, and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen security around tertiary institutions, particularly those located in vulnerable communities.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare, safety, and academic success of Borno State students, pledging to continue engaging relevant authorities to ensure adequate security measures are put in place and that those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.

NUBOSS further commended the swift response and bravery of security personnel, noting that their intervention prevented what could have been a far greater tragedy.

The union urged students to remain calm, stay vigilant, and cooperate with security agencies by reporting any suspicious activities. It also prayed for lasting peace and improved security across Borno State.
