The Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, has reaffirmed the university management’s commitment to securing a swift and peaceful resolution to the ongoing industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Liman gave the assurance when she received a delegation of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), led by Comrade Asma’u Idris Omeiza, at the Council Chamber of the university.
The meeting focused on the impact of the prolonged strike on students and other stakeholders, as well as possible ways of facilitating its resolution and ensuring the resumption of academic activities.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the NANS leadership for its patience, maturity and commitment to pursuing a peaceful resolution to the impasse since the commencement of the strike.
She acknowledged that the prolonged industrial action had affected students, parents, the university management, ASUU and government, stressing that all stakeholders had a role to play in finding a sustainable solution.
Liman said the university management had remained actively engaged in consultations and other efforts aimed at addressing the situation, assuring students that the institution would continue to explore every legitimate and constructive avenue available.
She emphasised that collaboration among government, university management, ASUU and students was essential to achieving a lasting resolution.
According to her, dialogue, mutual understanding and collective responsibility remained critical to ending the crisis.
“Our students remain at the heart of everything we do. We understand the difficulties this situation has created for them, and Management is committed to doing everything within its capacity to facilitate a resolution and ensure that academic activities resume as soon as possible,” she said.
The Vice-Chancellor appealed to NANS and the entire student body to work closely with the university management by offering constructive ideas and recommendations that could contribute to resolving the dispute.
She also urged students to remain calm, patient and peaceful while dialogue and other appropriate channels of engagement were being pursued.
Liman assured the students that the management would continue to protect their interests and welfare while engaging relevant stakeholders towards a positive outcome.
Responding on behalf of the delegation, NANS leader Comrade Asma’u Idris Omeiza expressed appreciation to the university management for providing the platform for direct engagement with the Vice-Chancellor.
She particularly commended Liman’s open-door leadership style and willingness to engage students and their representatives in a peaceful and constructive manner.
Asma’u described dialogue as a critical pathway to resolving the ongoing impasse and called on the government, university management and ASUU to intensify consultations towards reaching an agreement that would bring the strike to an end.
She stressed that the interests and welfare of students must remain central to all efforts aimed at resolving the dispute.

Also speaking, the Divisional Police Officer of Angwan Lambu Police Station, Idris Kennedy, commended the NSUK management for its efforts towards resolving the strike.
Kennedy urged NANS and students to remain patient and peaceful while consultations among stakeholders continued.
He advised students to utilise established channels of communication and due process, warning against actions that could further complicate the situation.
Similarly, the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Keffi, Mr. J. Yusuf, appealed to students to remain calm and patient, saying government and university management were engaged in dialogue aimed at resolving the situation and facilitating the resumption of academic activities.
Yusuf also appreciated the NANS delegation for its understanding and cooperation, urging all stakeholders to sustain peaceful and constructive engagement.
