The Bauchi State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) recently made significant arrests, parading seven individuals suspected of involvement in various criminal activities, alongside one person found in possession of counterfeit dollar notes.
These arrests were made across different locations within the state.
According to the State Commandant, Ilelaboye Oyejide, the suspects were apprehended for diverse offenses.
Five individuals were accused of vandalizing petroleum pipelines, while two others were allegedly involved in the vandalism of railway sleepers. Additionally, one person was caught with fake dollar notes.
The arrests were made possible through the diligent efforts of NSCDC personnel who acted upon credible intelligence received.
This proactive approach led to the apprehension of the suspects, who will now undergo thorough investigations before facing charges in court.
One instance of vandalism involved the destruction of railway sleepers at Dangubi village along Gombe road.
“We got information from our people in the field that some people were vandalizing railway sleepers at one village known as Dangubi village along Gombe road.”
NSCDC officers swiftly responded to the tip-off and managed to apprehend two suspects, Musa Gambo and Mohammed Musa, both 20 years old.
“Immediately we moved to the area and luck ran against them. The people involved were actually four but we were able to arrest 2 namely: Musa Gambo, 20 years and Mohammed Musa, 20 years. We are investigating their case and after the completion of the investigation, we are going to charge them to court accordingly”, he said.
Investigations into their activities are ongoing, intending to prosecute them accordingly.
Another group of suspects was nabbed for allegedly vandalizing petroleum products at Kengari village along Gombe road.
This arrest was facilitated by the Nigerian Army of Artillery, Bauchi State, who handed over the suspects to the NSCDC.
Exhibits recovered from this operation included motorcycles, petroleum, and empty jerry cans. The suspects were apprehended in the act of siphoning the petroleum product.
The third category of suspects involved an individual found in possession of counterfeit dollars.
This person was apprehended following information provided by a woman who had previously received counterfeit 100-dollar bills from him. The suspect was found with 2000 fake dollars at his residence.
Commandant Oyejide emphasized that those contemplating the vandalism of national infrastructure should reconsider their actions, as they will face the full force of the law under his supervision.
This stern warning serves as a deterrent to potential perpetrators, reaffirming the commitment of the NSCDC to maintaining law and order within Bauchi State.
