The Niger State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), based in Minna, has reiterated its commitment to fostering peace and security across Nigeria.
This assurance was given by the Commandant of the NSCDC, Niger State Command, Adamu Abdullahi Kambara, through the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Mohammed Rabiu Muti DSC, in a press statement released on Tuesday in Minna to commemorate the 2024 International Day of Peace.
The Commandant emphasized that the NSCDC is dedicated to promoting peace and security not only in Niger State but throughout the entire country.
He stressed that meaningful development cannot thrive in an environment plagued by conflict and discord.
The theme of the 2024 International Day of Peace, “Cultivating a Culture of Peace,” aligns closely with the NSCDC’s values and mission.
The Commandant noted that the world is currently grappling with issues such as conflict, inequality, and discrimination.
He highlighted the importance of building a culture of peace that transcends borders, ethnicities, and ideologies, asserting that peace is not just the absence of conflict but a dynamic process that requires active participation.
“There is a need for a participatory process that encourages dialogue, mutual understanding, and cooperation,” he stated. “As we reflect on the significance of this day, I urge all residents of Niger State and Nigerians at large to embrace the values of respect, tolerance, and solidarity. Let us work together to create a society where differences are celebrated, and conflicts are resolved through peaceful means.”
Commandant Kambara underscored several key values essential to cultivating a culture of peace, including respect for life, human rights, and fundamental freedoms.
The promotion of non-violence through education, dialogue, and cooperation; a commitment to the peaceful settlement of conflicts; and adherence to freedom, justice, tolerance, solidarity, cooperation, and pluralism.
He extended his appreciation to the Commandant General of the Corps, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for his unwavering support and guidance in leading the NSCDC.
He credited Dr. Audi’s leadership with playing a significant role in promoting peace and security nationwide.
Similarly, the Commandant commended the Executive Governor of Niger State, Hon. Mohammed Umaru Bago, for his continuous support of the NSCDC in the state.
He noted that the Governor’s commitment to collaborative efforts with security agencies has been invaluable in addressing security challenges across Niger State.
Commandant Kambara also reminded the public of the Corps’ dedicated Peace and Conflict Resolution Unit, which has successfully resolved over 100 cases involving land disputes, farmer-herder conflicts, communal disputes, buyer-seller disagreements, borrower-lender issues, and landlord-tenant conflicts, among others.
“To achieve peace, it requires collective efforts and commitment,” he stated, calling on all stakeholders to work together in promoting a culture of peace that benefits humanity.
As part of the celebrations for the 2024 International Day of Peace, the NSCDC Niger State Command organized several activities, including a lecture delivered on Monday, September 23, 2024, followed by a road walk and tree planting event on Tuesday.
These activities were aimed at reinforcing the message of peace and the importance of environmental stewardship.
