The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has reassured members of the public of its determination to ensure their safety and security before, during, and after the Easter celebrations.
The NSCDC Commandant, Maku Olatunde, in a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, Okadigbo Edwin, ordered the deployment of 991 officers and men, along with other operational assets of the command, for intensive and proactive visibility patrols across the state.
He listed patrol areas to include worship centers, recreational centers, vulnerable and key points, such as banks and other financial institutions, government facilities, and other critical national, state, and local government assets and infrastructure.
NSCDC boss directed that the existing security measures be sustained, and that the NSCDC would collaborate with other agencies to provide continuous security coverage and maintain law and order during the celebrations.
Maku strongly cautioned vandals, miscreants, hoodlums, and disgruntled elements to steer clear of critical national assets and infrastructure, stating that the Corps will take tough action against anyone caught or found culpable.
He also directed VIP orderlies to strictly follow Standard Operating Procedures, Rules of Engagement, and Service Orders while on duty.
In a related development, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State command, has deployed 1,500 personnel, including Special Marshals, to monitor key traffic points across the state ahead of the Easter celebrations.
The sector commander, Bridget Asekhauno, disclosed this on Wednesday while speaking with journalists.
She said the command also placed emergency response teams on standby to handle any incidents.
The commander noted that tow trucks, patrol vehicles, motorcycles, and ambulances had been made ready to respond promptly to emergencies and traffic obstructions.
Mrs. Asekhauno urged motorists to prioritize road safety by obeying traffic rules and exercising caution on the roads, especially during this period of increased movement.
She also appealed to passengers to take responsibility for their own safety by wearing seat belts, avoiding overloading, and reporting reckless driving to authorities.
“We urge all road users to make safety a priority and arrive at their destinations safely.
“Let us make this Easter memorable, not for crashes, but for safe travels and joyful celebrations,” the sector commander said.
She added that for emergency assistance, road users could contact the FRSC toll-free number, 122, emphasizing the command’s commitment to saving lives, public enlightenment, and prompt rescue services.
