NPS Promotes First Female Assistant Conservator-General, Elevates 607 Personnel

The Governing Board of the National Park Service (NPS) has approved the promotion of Mrs Maris Mamman as the first female Assistant Conservator-General (ACG) in the history of the Service.

The board also approved the promotion of 607 personnel to strengthen the agency, boost staff morale, and enhance the effective management of Nigeria’s national parks.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday in Abuja, the Media Assistant to the Conservator-General of the NPS, Mrs Agbor Eba, said the promotions followed the board’s approval of the Establishment Committee’s recommendations at its meeting on June 23.

According to her, Mamman was elevated from the rank of Conservator of Parks (CP) to Assistant Conservator-General (ACG), becoming the first woman to attain the prestigious position since the establishment of the Service.

Eba also announced that the board confirmed the appointment of the Acting Assistant Conservator-General, Mr Ugochukwu Michael, as the substantive Assistant Conservator-General representing the South-East.

She described the promotions as a landmark milestone for the Service, particularly Mamman’s elevation, which she said reflects the agency’s commitment to gender inclusion and equal opportunities in wildlife conservation.

The Conservator-General of the NPS, Dr Ibrahim Goni, congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to regard their elevation as a call to greater responsibility, professionalism, discipline and dedication to the protection and conservation of Nigeria’s rich biodiversity.

He reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to building a highly motivated workforce capable of effectively delivering its mandate of preserving the nation’s natural heritage for both present and future generations.
