The leaders of the 19 Northern states have collectively urged the Federal Government to intensify its efforts in addressing the pressing challenges of banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, and various security concerns that are adversely impacting the region.

In a concerted plea, the representatives from these states have underscored the imperative for the central government to dedicate enhanced resources, strategies, and collaboration to effectively combat and mitigate the multifaceted security issues that are currently prevalent in the Northern part of the country.

The leaders are advocating for a comprehensive and concerted approach that involves not only robust law enforcement measures but also socio-economic initiatives aimed at addressing the root causes of these security challenges, thereby fostering lasting stability and well-being for the affected communities.

These governors, part of the Northern Governors Forum, are also joining forces to thoroughly investigate the accidental military airstrike in Tundun Biri, Kaduna State.

In Kaduna, during the governors’ meeting, Inuwa Yahaya, the chairman of the forum and governor of Gombe State, highlighted how security challenges have significantly impacted the socio-economic well-being of the Northern people.

While appreciating the Federal Government’s increased efforts against insecurity, Governor Yahaya emphasized the need for more action to stop banditry, kidnapping, communal clashes, and terrorism in the North.

Governor Uba Sani stressed the importance of a strategic agenda for the North’s development that prioritizes the people’s needs.

He called for the governors’ forum to create a shared strategy and operational plan to address insecurity.

This includes establishing a command and control center to coordinate their collective efforts in tackling security challenges in the region.
