Northern Elders Forum claims Tinubu is impoverishing northern Nigeria

—

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has accused President Bola Tinubu of making northern Nigeria poorer with his policies.

This statement comes in response to the government’s decision to move key departments of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) from Abuja to Lagos.

NEF is not known for sugarcoating or criticizing any administration, including Tinubu’s. Their spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, emphasized their commitment to a standard of judgment that is respectful and responsible in dealing with leaders while speaking truth to power.

Suleiman pointed out that the relocation of CBN and FAAN departments has negative implications for Abuja’s status as the capital and financial consequences for the institutions involved.

He expressed concern about the impact of Tinubu’s policies on the North, claiming that they seem to contribute to impoverishment in that region while benefiting other parts of the country.

Highlighting issues such as rising inflation, job losses, business closures, and deteriorating infrastructure, Suleiman emphasized the hardships faced by millions of households in the North.

He urged President Tinubu to acknowledge the detrimental effects of his policies on the region and take corrective measures to foster inclusivity and prosperity for all of Nigeria.

Suleiman issued a warning that if Tinubu continues to prioritize sectional interests, the North might vote against him in 2027.

This caution is based on perceived imbalances in federal appointments, resource allocation, and policies during Tinubu’s tenure that have negatively impacted the North.
