North Prefers Jonathan Over Obi for 2027 Presidential Race- PDP Chieftain, Sani

A prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Sani, has stirred political waters by declaring that Northern Nigeria would rather back former President Goodluck Jonathan than Labour Party’s Peter Obi for the 2027 presidency.

Speaking on Trust TV’s Daily Politics monitored by The News Chronicle on Saturday, Sani claimed that the Northern region would be more comfortable with Jonathan, who is constitutionally limited to one term, than with Obi, whose term limit rests only on personal promises.

“Between someone bound by law to serve just four years and someone who merely promises to do so—who would you trust?” said Sani, a former media aide to ex-Vice President Namadi Sambo.

Sani’s remarks come amid speculation that the PDP is exploring both a potential return of Jonathan and a political courtship of Obi ahead of 2027.

“For the North, Goodluck Jonathan is the best choice,” Sani added, underscoring what could become a major talking point in the PDP’s evolving power dynamics.
