North Central APC Endorses Ex-IGP for 2027 Nasarawa Governorship

The North Central All Progressives Congress Forum (NCAPCF) has endorsed former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, as its preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Nasarawa State, citing his extensive security and administrative experience.

Chairman of the forum, Saleh Zazzaga, announced the endorsement on Wednesday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport before departing for the Lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia.

He said the decision followed wide consultations with leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress across Nasarawa State and the broader North-Central region.

According to Zazzaga, participants in the consultations agreed that Adamu is well-positioned to sustain the policies of the incumbent governor, Abdullahi Sule.

“We arrived at this endorsement after extensive consultations with APC leaders and stakeholders in Nasarawa State and the North-Central at large. From our consultations, we believe Mohammed Adamu is the right person to continue the good works of the current governor,” Zazzaga said.

The forum highlighted Adamu’s career in the Nigeria Police Force, including over a decade of service with Interpol and his tenure as Nigeria’s 20th Inspector-General of Police from 2019 to 2021.

Zazzaga noted that his national and international security experience could enhance governance and strengthen security in Nasarawa State if elected.

“Having Mohammed Adamu as governor of Nasarawa State will not only guarantee the development of the state, but it will also ensure the security of lives and property not only in Nasarawa but across the North-Central due to his experience at the top levels of the international and national security architecture,” he added.

The forum also cited growing support for Adamu’s governorship ambition from various groups and individuals within the state, including traditional and youth organizations.

Adamu had earlier declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in April 2025 during a meeting with members of the APC State Working Committee in Lafia, stating that he was encouraged by calls from stakeholders across the state.

Meanwhile, the forum condemned what it described as the arrest and prosecution of some of its members by officials of the Nasarawa State government over political disagreements.

Zazzaga cited the case of Kabiru Dallah, a forum member who was allegedly detained for more than 50 days and is currently facing prosecution.

He warned against the use of political power to intimidate perceived opponents, stating that such actions could escalate tensions ahead of the 2027 elections.
