Awka – Anambra Civil Society Network (ACSONET) a platform for Citizens and Non State Actors in Anambra State has called for a stop to the call for renewed ENDSARS protests across the country.
The call was in reaction to an online release, saying the second phase of the ENDSARS protest will commence on Monday, 7th of December, 2020.
The social media release also contained palpable incitement of Nigerian citizens to embark on nationwide protests with threats of violence and mayhem.
Bu while speaking with TNC Correspondent on Monday, Prince Chris Azor, ACSONET Chairman, enjoined all peace and development loving citizens in the State to remain calm and promote peace and tranquility.
The group called on all Anambra Citizens, especially the Youths, to rise and protect the state from any attack and destruction of their hard earned heritage
“We also enjoin the Government of Anambra State to use his good offices and ensure full protection of our dear State from any wanton attack and destruction. We also, call on the State Police Command and other Security Agencies in Anambra State, to beef up surveillance and ensure security of lives and property. In solidarity, we enjoin the entrepreneurial and hardworking Anambra Youths and Citizens, not to participate in any form of protests or violence that may adversely affect the state architecture and livelihoods nurtured by self efforts after devastations of the Civil War,” Azor appealed.
He commended the timely efforts of Anambra State government to address issues raised during the EndSARS protests, by setting up a Judicial Panel of Inquiry, with initial #200 million as compensation for victims.
Azor said the Judicial Panel, populated mainly by our Youth and other relevant stakeholders, has since commenced work, and is dutifully attending to numerous petitions submitted, with a view to delivering justice to victims.
“Anambra Civil Society Network therefore, fully identifies with Anambra State Government, the Security Agencies, Youth groups and all stakeholders in ensuring peace and security in our beloved State,” he said.
