The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra State has drawn a bold line in the sand, warning extortionists to keep their hands off candidates ahead of the 2026 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration exercise.
The warning came from the State Commandant, Mr Olatunde Maku, during a familiarisation visit by the Anambra State JAMB Coordinator, Dr Dinah Obiano, to the NSCDC headquarters in Awka on Friday.
Maku said the command was tightening its operational belt and reinforcing cooperation with JAMB to ensure that the registration and examination processes run smoothly, without foul play or sharp practices.
He described the visit as a timely move to cement institutional ties and boost operational efficiency between the NSCDC and the examination body, especially as preparations for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) gather momentum.
“Ahead of the commencement of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration, the command will deploy personnel massively to various registration centres.
“This is not only to secure facilities but also to ensure that prospective candidates are not shortchanged.
“I want to assure you that the command will not allow unpatriotic individuals or criminal elements to extort candidates.
“Anyone caught violating government-approved procedures will face the full wrath of the law,” he said.
The commandant noted that the long-standing partnership between the NSCDC and JAMB had continued to pay dividends, particularly in clamping down on examination malpractice and other underhand dealings.
He added that joint operations had previously led to the shutdown of illegal and unaccredited registration centres, as well as the arrest of syndicates feeding fat on desperate candidates.
Earlier, Dr Obiano applauded the NSCDC for standing shoulder to shoulder with JAMB to ensure the successful conduct of UTME in the state.
She described the corps’ involvement as a patriotic call to duty and urged that the existing collaboration be sustained to protect the integrity of the examination process.
Obiano also assured that adequate preparations were in place to guarantee a peaceful, orderly and conducive environment for the 2026 examination across Anambra State.
