No Governor Is Being Forced to Join APC— Morka

National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Felix Morka, has dismissed claims that Bola Tinubu is forcing state governors to defect to the ruling party, insisting the mass exodus from opposition parties is a vote of confidence in APC’s leadership.

In an interview on AriseNews monitored by The News Chronicle, Morka said: “It is mischievous to suggest that governors are joining the APC under duress. They are moving to the ruling party because it is offering what the ADC, Peoples Democratic Party, and Labour Party could not.”

He added that many governors cited President Tinubu’s non-discriminatory leadership style as a major factor for their defection. “The ADC has focused largely on attacking the APC without presenting concrete solutions to Nigeria’s challenges. Criticism is easy offering alternatives is harder,” Morka said.

On the controversial electoral reforms, Morka explained that while the APC holds a majority in the National Assembly of Nigeria, the party does not unilaterally determine legislative outcomes. He stressed that removing direct primaries is a challenge facing all parties, not a move designed to frustrate the opposition.

Reacting to opposition claims, African Democratic Congress chieftain Ladan Salihu countered that Nigeria’s democracy is “on life support” and accused the National Assembly of acting as an extension of the APC. Salihu, however, dismissed rumours of crisis within the ADC and promised that the party would soon unveil policy strategies to tackle poverty and insecurity nationwide.
