Former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, on Saturday threw his weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying the Nigerian leader is “doing the best he can all round” in steering the country through its complex political, economic and security challenges.
Gowon made the remark after a meeting with the president at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he commended Tinubu’s leadership and efforts across key sectors.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, the elder statesman expressed satisfaction with the administration’s handling of national issues, particularly governance, economic management and the fight against insecurity.
“As far as it goes, isn’t he doing the best he can all round? There is no particular place. Every other area; political, economic, social and of course the major problem that we have today, security, he’s doing everything to deal with those for the good of Nigeria,” Gowon said.
When asked to identify specific areas where the president could improve, the former military leader maintained that the administration is already addressing the country’s pressing challenges.
“There is no particular place. He has to look after the interests of Nigeria in all areas,” he added.
Gowon explained that his visit to the Presidential Villa was mainly to appreciate the president’s efforts and acknowledge what he described as the progress being recorded under the current administration.
“I came to see him and to thank him for all the good work that he’s doing for the country.
“We looked at the progress Nigeria is making economically and in other areas, and the good work the president is doing for the nation.” He said.
