The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, and Cosmopolitan University have agreed to formalise a partnership to drive climate-smart agriculture, aviation research, and AI-driven innovations for Nigerian communities.
The Director General/CEO of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, received the Vice Chancellor of Cosmopolitan University, Prof. Carl Adams, on a courtesy visit to the Agency in Abuja on Monday, July 6.
Prof. Anosike highlighted the similarity between NiMet as a public institution and the University in “translating science to action.” He noted NiMet’s strides in producing research documents for public benefit and applauded the University for embracing new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence to build climate-ready and climate-resilient communities.
In his remarks, Prof. Adams affirmed the University’s commitment to developing the next generation of indigenous AI scientists and to advancing climate-smart innovations driven by satellite data and AI applications.
At the end of the meeting, both institutions agreed to formalise the collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU.
The proposed MoU will focus on a multidisciplinary approach to climate-smart and digital agriculture for smallholder farmers, aviation research, staff exchange, data analytics, AI applications, and leveraging meteorological information to improve livelihoods.
The Vice Chancellor was accompanied by the Pro-Chancellor of the University and other senior management members during the visit.
