Nigeria’s Nnadozie Shines Again as Hakimi Claims Top CAF Honour

Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie has extended her dominance in African women’s football by winning the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award for the third year in a row.

The Super Falcons star was announced winner at the CAF Awards ceremony in Morocco, beating Andile Dlamini of South Africa and Khadija Er-Rmichi of Morocco to retain her crown.

The goalkeeper’s reliability for the national team as well as her excellent performance for Brentford FC Women, were mostly responsible for her recent continental reputation. She is today thought to be among the most reliable goalkeepers in global football because of her constant accomplishments.

Nigeria was, however, excluded from other significant classifications. Ghizlane Chebbak of Morocco, a member of Al Hilal, vanquished national team captain Rasheedat Ajibade in the contest for Women’s Footballer of the Year. Nigeria also lost the highly contested men’s division as Victor Osimhen failed to keep the Super Eagles’ winning run going.

Paris Saint-Germain fullback Achraf Hakimi was named Men’s Footballer of the Year after a historic season that saw him win four major trophies with the French champions. His achievements, including a top six finish in the 2025 Ballon d’Or standings, made him the overwhelming favourite.

Nigeria had enjoyed back-to-back victories in the men’s category with Osimhen in 2023 and Ademola Lookman in 2024, but the momentum shifted strongly to North Africa this year.

Other honours on the night included Morocco’s Doha El Madani winning the Women’s Young Player award, while Senegal’s Lamine Camara retained the Men’s Young Player title. Cape Verde earned the Men’s National Team of the Year, with Bubista also securing Coach of the Year after guiding the nation to its first-ever World Cup appearance. Morocco completed its strong showing with Yassine Bounou winning Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year.
