Nigerians spent about N1.41 trillion on beer, malt and spirits in the first half of 2026, as the country’s major brewers recorded strong sales despite persistent economic pressures.
The total revenue from the operations of Nigerian Breweries, International Breweries and Guinness Nigeria is an indication of the vitality of the formal beverage market as manufacturers report higher prices and varieties of their products.
The News Chronicle reports that the companies recorded N1.41 trillion in revenue in the first half of 2022. Nigerian Breweries had the largest share of the total revenue with N803.7 billion followed by International Breweries and Guinness Nigeria with N342.1 billion and N265 billion respectively.
The companies’ profit before tax also rose nearly 24 per cent to N269.4 billion as higher prices, lower cost of financing and ease in foreign exchange contributed to the growth.
Nigerian Breweries, International Breweries and Guinness Nigeria spent more than N130 billion on marketing and advertisements and about N103 billion on capital projects.
However, changing consumer habits remain a concern. Younger Nigerians are increasingly showing interest in spirits, wine, ready to drink beverages and non alcoholic products.
Despite this shift, the improved financial performance suggests Nigeria’s major brewers are adapting while positioning their businesses for sustained growth.
