Nigerians May Pay More For Airtime, Data As NCC Approves New Tariff Plans for Telecom Operators

Nigerians are bracing up to pay more for calls and data as the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has introduced new tariff plans for telecom operators in Nigeria.

According to New Telegraph, these new tariffs will come into effect on July 29, 2024.
The aim of these changes is to make pricing simpler for a variety of telecom services.
The details of these changes are found in a document titled “Guidance On The Simplification of Tariffs In The Nigerian Communications Sector,” signed by NCC Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida.
The new rules will apply to 219 million phone lines, 164 million internet subscriptions, and 94 million broadband connections as of the first quarter of 2024.
The new pricing rules cover tariffs, add-ons, bundles, promotions, and other service elements.
Additionally, the NCC requires that every subscriber must be on a tariff plan, and no subscriber can be on more than one plan at a time.
