Nigerian Troops Kill Terrorist, Arrest Nine Suspects in Zamfara Crackdown

—

Troops of Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA have recorded fresh successes in ongoing counter-terrorism operations across Zamfara State, neutralizing a terrorist, arresting suspected bandits and disrupting criminal networks in multiple communities.

According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA on Monday night, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of Sector 2, conducting a fighting patrol on June 5, 2026, engaged terrorists at Birnin Tsaba village in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area.

Following a fierce exchange of gunfire, one terrorist was neutralized, while seven motorcycles were recovered from the scene.

On June 6, troops responded swiftly to a terrorist attack at Anguwar Sarkin Musulmi village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.

The terrorists fled into the bush upon the arrival of security forces. Preliminary investigations revealed that the attackers had stolen personal belongings from residents before the troops intervened.

The military noted that the incident reflects the increasing pressure being exerted on terrorist groups through sustained operations targeting their logistics and support networks.

In a separate incident on the same day, troops responded to reports of an attack on commuters along the Kaura Namoda – Zurmi Road.

Investigations showed that terrorists had ambushed two civilian vehicles between Jabanda and Dauran villages in Zurmi Local Government Area. Security personnel secured the area, evacuated injured victims for medical treatment and intensified efforts to track the attackers and rescue any abducted passengers.

Meanwhile, troops conducting a fighting patrol in Tudun Wada and Dan Gulbi communities of Maru Local Government Area arrested eight suspected bandits at Tudun Wada.

Items recovered from the suspects included seven motorcycles, communication equipment, mobile phones, power banks, military-style uniforms and other materials believed to be linked to criminal activities. Troops also destroyed a structure allegedly used by the suspects as an operational base.

In another breakthrough, troops arrested a suspected recipient of recently intercepted ammunition at Tupa village in Shinkafi Local Government Area on June 5 following intelligence-led operations. The suspect is currently in custody and assisting investigators.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorists and bandits across the North-West and urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to support ongoing security efforts.
