Nigerian Soldier Arrested for Allegedly Stealing Ammunition, Planned to Sell to Bandits in Borno State

The Nigeria Police Force has apprehended a soldier, Private Bara’u Tajuddeen, who has been accused of attempting to illegally sell military ammunition, including anti-aircraft rounds, to criminal groups on Friday.

Tajuddeen, a soldier assigned to the 19th Special Force Brigade in Maiduguri, was reportedly intercepted at the Maiduguri motor park while on his way to Kano. Authorities believe he intended to sell the stolen weapons to bandits.

Private Bara’u Tajuddeen, identified by his service number 22NA/82/3441, had reportedly been under police surveillance following suspicions regarding his involvement in the illegal trafficking of military-grade ammunition.

According to a source close to the investigation, Tajuddeen was carrying stolen ammunition with the intent of selling it for personal profit.

Law enforcement personnel were alerted to his activities and took action to detain him before he could leave Maiduguri with the stolen items.

“The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a soldier identified as Private Bara’u Tajuddeen, who was found in possession of stolen military ammunition, including anti-aircraft rounds. He had been intending to sell these items to bandits,” the source explained. “He was assigned to the 19 Special Force Brigade in Maiduguri and was intercepted at Maiduguri’s motor park, en route to Kano.”

The arrest has raised concerns about the security of military resources in Nigeria and the potential risks associated with their illegal sale to armed groups.

Authorities are expected to carry out a thorough investigation into the case to determine if other individuals may be involved in this or similar activities.
