The Nigerian military has established a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Sayaya, Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State, as part of renewed efforts to combat banditry, improve security, and facilitate the return of displaced residents to their communities.
The deployment, carried out under Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, is aimed at strengthening ongoing military operations against armed bandits and terrorists operating in the area.
According to military authorities, the decision to establish the forward base followed repeated attacks by armed bandits that forced residents of Sayaya to flee their homes, leaving the community largely deserted.
The military stated that the new base would deny terrorists and bandits the opportunity to use the community as a staging ground for attacks and a logistics corridor to their enclaves, many of which were destroyed during the recently concluded Operation CLEAN SWEEP III.
The Forward Operating Base is expected to enhance troop presence, improve surveillance, and support offensive operations against criminal elements while boosting security across Sayaya and neighbouring communities.
Military officials expressed confidence that the improved security environment would encourage displaced families to return to their ancestral homes and resume farming and other socio-economic activities disrupted by years of insecurity.
Reaffirming its commitment to restoring peace across the North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA said troops would sustain operations to eliminate banditry and other security threats while protecting the lives and property of law-abiding citizens.
The military also appealed to residents of Katsina State and the general public to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence to aid ongoing operations against criminal groups.
