Nigerian Lecturers Earn Just $300 Monthly, Which is Unfortunate -ASUU Chairman

The National Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Emmanuel Osodek, recently highlighted the dire financial situation facing lecturers in Nigeria, on Monday.
According to Osodeke, the average monthly salary for a lecturer in Nigeria is a mere $300. This paltry sum is insufficient to meet the high cost of living in the country.
Osodeke also lamented the lack of foreign lecturers in Nigeria, despite the prevalence of Nigerian lecturers across West Africa.
He questioned why Nigeria, with its large population and academic institutions, fails to attract foreign talent.
He emphasized the irony of Nigerian students seeking education abroad, even in countries like Sudan, while Nigeria struggles to retain its own educators due to poor working conditions.
In an interview with News Central TV, Osodeke expressed concern over the exodus of Nigerian students seeking education abroad and the absence of foreign lecturers in Nigeria.
He emphasized the need for better pay and working conditions to retain talented educators and improve the quality of higher education in Nigeria.
