A Nigerian man in the northern city of Bauchi has been given twenty strokes of the cane for being gay. The Islamic court in the state convicted him of homosexual offences.
The said man committed the offence seven years ago, but had just been convicted following the new anti-gay law in the country.
As a matter of fact, homosexual acts attract the death penalty in Bauchi and other parts of the country where Sharia is practiced.
But the Muslim man accused of committing the crime was forgiven because he committed the crime seven years ago and had since stopped the act.
In a similar development, ten men have been arrested for practicing homosexuality in the same state. And their fate hangs in the balance.
There is no doubt that with the new anti-gay law in Nigeria there will be more convictions and lynching of innocent people.
