Nigerian Government Gains N2.8bn from Google for AI Talent Development

—

The Nigerian government recently secured a N2.8 billion boost from Google to enhance Artificial Intelligence (AI) talent in Nigeria.

This initiative, presented by the Minister of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, took place during a joint event in Abuja.

This support forms part of Google’s broader $5.8 million initiative to bolster digital skills across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Targeting Nigeria’s growing unemployment concerns, the fund aims to bridge skill gaps by providing opportunities in the global digital landscape.

Under this scheme, Nigeria’s 3 Million Technical Talents (3MTT) program will train 20,000 Nigerians in AI skills. Additionally, 125,000 educators will be equipped to introduce AI fundamentals to young learners.

The initiative will also extend support to 10 Nigerian AI startups, which will receive N100 million, Google Cloud credits, and mentorship.

Through these investments, the Nigerian government seeks to elevate the nation’s role in AI innovation and empower its youth with essential digital skills.
