Nigerian DJs Ban Burna Boy’s Music After Fight with DJ Tunez

The Nigerian DJ Association (NDJ) has announced a temporary removal of songs by Burna Boy from DJs’ playlists following an alleged physical confrontation with DJ Tunez at a private event in Lagos.

The incident is reported to have taken place on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Obi’s House, a weekly music gathering hosted by nightlife entrepreneur Obi Cubana. Accounts from attendees indicate that a disagreement between both men escalated into a physical exchange. Witnesses alleged that individuals within Burna Boy’s entourage became involved before security personnel intervened to end the situation.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, the NDJ directed its members in Nigeria and abroad to suspend the playing of Burna Boy’s music pending further review. The association stated that it was due to the treatment of one of its members.

The statement read in part: “No one is born hating another because of the skin colour, religion, background or gender. People simply learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can also be taught to love since love comes naturally to the human heart more than its opposite.”

It continued: “Here at NigerianDJ, we put all our DJs first, standing firm on ‘ALL DJs are EQUAL’.” The group added that it seeks “equal justice, equal opportunity and equal dignity without discrimination” for its members.

Announcing the measure, the association stated: “Burna Boy’s music is temporarily out of any of our DJs’ playlists till further notice. Our team will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident that occurred last night involving one of our own, DJ Tunez.”

Video recordings circulating online appear to show both men in a physical exchange before intervention by bystanders. The immediate cause of the dispute has not been confirmed.

Following the incident, DJ Tunez posted a brief message on X, writing: “OGBAFIA NUMBER 1 DON WAKE OO.” He has not issued a detailed account of the events.

As of the time of this report, there has been no official response from Burna Boy or his management team.

The NDJ indicated that the restriction remains in place while its inquiry continues. No timeline has been given for the conclusion of the review or for a possible reinstatement of the artist’s music.
