Nigerian Customs generates N52.7bn revenue in Kano and Jigawa command 

The Nigeria Customs Service’s Area Command has revealed that it amassed approximately N52.7 billion as Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in 2023 from its operations in Kano and Jigawa.

Dauda Chana, the Customs Comptroller overseeing these commands, shared this information during an interview in Kano.

Chana highlighted the command’s efforts to bolster security at border posts, aiming to curb illegal trade and the entry of contraband into the country.

Emphasizing a commitment to preventing offensive goods from being smuggled, the comptroller stated that the command would conduct 100% physical examinations at borders in the region.

An effective operational order has been issued to field officers, outlining strategies to combat smuggling.

Chana underscored the command’s dedication to trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security in alignment with NCS management directives.

Collaborating with traditional rulers in border communities, the command seeks their assistance in providing reliable information on smugglers’ movements.

The area comptroller outlined the briefed officers’ role in leveraging this partnership to apprehend smugglers.

Strategic placement of officers and the implementation of diverse strategies aim to gather crucial information for the arrest and prosecution of those involved in illegal activities.

Chana expressed optimism regarding the involvement of border communities, anticipating that their cooperation would significantly aid in protecting the nation’s economy from saboteurs.

He emphasized the importance of intelligence reports from Nigerians, especially those in border regions, to assist the command in apprehending smugglers.
