The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), Major General AE Abubakar, emphasized the importance of young officers mastering basic military skills to tackle emerging security challenges.Â
Addressing over 500 young officers undergoing conversion exercise in Plateau State Capital on May 6th, 2024, he stressed the need for proficiency in basic military skills, physical fitness, and mental preparedness.
This conversion exercise is vital for the career progression of Nigerian Army Officers, particularly those under the Short Service Commission and Direct Short Service Commission.
It offers the opportunity to transition to Regular Combatant and Direct Regular Commissions within the Nigerian Army, enabling them to serve beyond the specified service years outlined in the Harmonised Terms and Conditions of service.
Candidates will undergo various physical, laboratory, and radiological examinations to assess their fitness, aligning with the Nigerian Army’s requirements.
Major General Abubakar expressed confidence in the dedication and capabilities of the young officers undergoing the conversion process.
He urged them to approach the opportunity with diligence and commitment, recognizing their critical role in shaping the future of the Nigerian Army and safeguarding the nation’s security interests.
Congratulating the candidates for their participation, he charged them to maintain high standards of regimentation, discipline, and conduct throughout the exercise, cautioning against any form of cheating or collaboration.
The candidates were adequately prepared through cadre organized to tutor them on the required knowledge to excel during the Conversion Board.
The exercise is expected to last for two weeks.
