Nigerian Army to use research for improved effectiveness — COAS

Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of the Nigerian Army, stated that the army is committed to use research, development, and innovation to improve its effectiveness in operations. 

He said this during a seminar on Research Development and Innovation organized by the Army Headquarters in Abuja.

The COAS emphasized the importance of keeping up with advancements in technology and finding innovative solutions to address security challenges.

He highlighted how research and innovation have helped the Nigerian Army overcome obstacles in acquiring necessary equipment for combating terrorism, insurgency, banditry, and other security threats.

General Lagbaja stressed the need for the Nigerian Army to continuously adapt and innovate to counter evolving security threats effectively.

He reiterated that investing in research, development, and innovation is essential for developing new strategies and tactics to stay ahead of adversaries.

 

Furthermore, Major General Zakari Abubakar, the Chief of Transformation and Innovation (COTI), explained that the seminar was organized to support the COAS’s Command Philosophy, focusing on leadership, operational effectiveness, and sound administration.

 

He described research, development, and innovation as critical elements for maintaining operational readiness and staying ahead of adversaries.

 

The seminar aimed to gather insights from military, academic, and other relevant sectors to enhance the Nigerian Army’s operational effectiveness through research and innovation.

 

Attendees included representatives from the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, the Army Ministry of Defence, and various military establishments and agencies.

 

Throughout the seminar, lectures and presentations were delivered by experts, followed by interactive sessions to exchange ideas and perspectives.

 

The event provided a platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing among stakeholders to improve the Nigerian Army’s capabilities in responding to contemporary security challenges.
