The Nigerian Army (NA) has officially donated a newly constructed and fully equipped model Primary Health Care (PHC) facility to the Oziokutu-Ogaminana community located in the Adavi Local Government Area (LGA) of Kogi State on Thursday.
In addition to this new health center, the Army also carried out several infrastructural upgrades.
These included the renovation of existing buildings, the construction of a perimeter fence, and improvements in sanitation services.
To further support the health center’s functionality, a borehole was installed to provide clean water, and solar-powered lights were added for enhanced security at the facility.
This comprehensive project is part of the Nigerian Army’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Special Intervention Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) initiatives.
These initiatives are designed to strengthen relations between the military and civilian populations by providing essential services to underserved communities.
The program, which is spearheaded by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, was executed with the support of Major General Usman Tahiru Otaru, a distinguished son of the Oziokutu-Ogaminana community.
Maj. Gen. Otaru, who serves as the Deputy Chief of Policy and Plans at Army Headquarters, played a critical role in bringing this project to fruition.
During the handover ceremony, the Chief of Army Staff, represented by Major General Obinna Onubogu, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 2 Division, praised the Oziokutu-Ogaminana community for their cooperation and expressed his appreciation for the strong turnout at the event.
He also extended his gratitude to Governor Ahmed Ododo of Kogi State for his continuous support of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies working in the state.
Governor Ododo, represented at the event by the State Security Adviser, Commodore Jerry Omodara (rtd), commended both the COAS and Maj. Gen. Otaru for their efforts in enhancing the health and well-being of the community. The Governor also took the opportunity to praise the Nigerian Army’s ongoing security operations in the state.
These clearance operations, particularly in the Kogi West senatorial district, have successfully neutralized a significant number of bandits and led to the arrest of various criminal elements.
The Governor noted that this has greatly contributed to the improved security situation in the region.
In addition to the Governor’s remarks, Major General N. C. Ugbo, the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs at Army Headquarters, highlighted the importance of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to fostering positive relationships with the civilian population.
He emphasized that projects like the newly constructed PHC facility are part of a broader strategy to strengthen trust and cooperation between the military and local communities across the country.
The handover ceremony was attended by several high-ranking military officials and local dignitaries.
Among those present were Brigadier General Oluremi Fadairo, Commander of the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, His Royal Majesty Ahmed Tijani-Anaje, and numerous traditional rulers from the surrounding region.
Their attendance underscored the significance of the occasion and the strong community-military partnership that has been forged through this initiative.
