Nigerian Army Dismisses Soldier for Sleeping with Colleague’s Wife in Borno

A Lance Corporal serving at the 231 Battalion in Biu, Borno State, Nigeria, has been dismissed from the Nigerian Army after being found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with the wife of a fellow soldier.
This action was taken following Sections 79 and 93 of the Armed Forces Act CAP A20, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, which cite indecent professional misconduct and engaging in sexual relations with a colleague’s spouse as punishable offenses.
Reports indicate that the dismissed soldier, Abdullahi Ismail, had a history of sexual misconduct prior to this incident, which was brought to the attention of army authorities.
This case underscores a broader issue of disciplinary infractions within the military, as evidenced by recent dismissals of soldiers involved in other criminal activities such as theft.
The specific incident involving Ismail is said to have occurred within the barracks, reflecting a breach of trust and professionalism within the military community.
Sources within the army have expressed satisfaction with the decision to dismiss Ismail, noting that it sets an important precedent for deterring similar behavior in the future.
“We are happy as this will serve as an example to others involved in this act now common in our barracks,” one of the sources said.
Another source added, “Our colleague, Abdullahi has been dismissed at 231 BN Biu. He slept with his regular’s wife. So sad.”
This disciplinary action follows closely on the heels of the dismissal of two soldiers who were apprehended for stealing armoured cables from the Dangote Refinery in Lagos.
The soldiers were caught in possession of a substantial quantity of stolen cables and were subsequently detained, further highlighting the army’s commitment to upholding integrity and accountability within its ranks.
