The Nigerian Army from Operation Hadin Kai, working in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force in Borno State, have apprehended a soldier identified as Corporal Francis Bako on Tuesday,
The arrest was made on allegations of ammunition theft, according to intelligence sources, Corporal Bako was taken into custody by military intelligence personnel at Kano Motor Park in Maiduguri.
The arrest followed a tip-off that indicated the soldier’s suspicious activities. The sources, who spoke to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, revealed that Corporal Bako was discovered to be in possession of 602 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
Corporal Bako, originally from Mallam Fatori, was reportedly en route to Kaduna at the time of his arrest.
The discovery of such a significant amount of ammunition raised serious concerns about potential threats and the soldier’s intentions.
The Nigerian Army has placed Corporal Bako in custody and is conducting further investigations to determine the full extent of his actions and any possible connections to broader security issues.
