Nigeria Wins Bid to Host 2027 Africa Beach Volleyball Championship

—

Nigeria has secured the hosting rights for the 2027 Africa Beach Volleyball Championship, the National Sports Commission (NSC) announced on Thursday.

The Commission confirmed the development in a statement issued by its Director of Information and Public Relations, Kehinde Ajayi.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the announcement was made in Abuja by the President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), Mustapha Berraf.

Berraf said ANOCA’s decision was informed by the significant progress recorded in Nigerian sports in recent years.

“I want to thank the Federal Government of Nigeria for what it has been doing in sports in recent times.

“That is why we wasted no time in awarding Nigeria the hosting rights for the 2027 Africa Beach Volleyball Championship,” he said.

He commended Nigeria’s proven capacity to organise major international sporting events despite challenging circumstances.

Berraf recalled that the former President of the Confederation of African Athletics, Kalkaba Malboum, had praised Nigeria’s swift preparations for the Africa U-18/U-20 Athletics Championships in Abeokuta.

According to him, Nigeria accepted the hosting responsibility at short notice and successfully delivered the championships after just three months of preparations.

“This can only be achieved by a country that is intentional and deliberate about its sports development drive,” Berraf said.

The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, described the successful bid as another milestone in the implementation of the Commission’s sports development agenda.

He said attracting international competitions was in line with the Commission’s mandate to strengthen Nigeria’s sporting profile and create greater opportunities within the sports sector.

“We are serious about boosting the country’s sports economy.

“One way to achieve this is by attracting more international sporting events to Nigeria,” Dikko said.

The 2027 Africa Beach Volleyball Championship will be held in Lagos, further enhancing Nigeria’s reputation as a host of major continental sporting events.

The tournament follows Nigeria’s recent success in securing the hosting rights for the 2027 Africa School Games, further expanding the country’s international sporting calendar.
