The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has expressed its heartfelt appreciation to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for his proactive efforts in addressing the plight of pensioners in the state.
The union commended Governor Bago for his consistent payment of monthly pensions and the remarkable progress in clearing outstanding gratuities that have accumulated over the years, some dating back as far as 2003.
In a letter dated August 27, 2024, Elder Actor Zal, the General Secretary of the NUP, praised Governor Bago for his positive response to the union’s appeal earlier in the year.
The union had, on April 18, 2024, requested that the governor prioritize the payment of the accumulated gratuities owed to retirees.
To the relief of many, Governor Bago responded swiftly, taking decisive action to resolve the issue.
Elder Zal highlighted that many pensioners have confirmed receiving their long-awaited cheques, and that their accounts have been credited with the appropriate amounts.
This development has provided significant relief to retirees who had been anxiously awaiting these funds for years.
The union expressed its deep gratitude to Governor Bago for his commitment to improving the living standards of retirees.
Elder Zal acknowledged that the governor’s timely intervention has not only alleviated the financial burdens of pensioners but has also brought much-needed succour to their families.
In his letter, Elder Zal emphasized the union’s appreciation for Governor Bago’s dedication, especially considering the challenging economic situation facing the country.
“The union will celebrate your commitment at the appropriate time. We are grateful to Almighty God for having Governor Umaru Bago at this time, despite the nation’s economic challenges,” he said.
Governor Bago’s efforts have rekindled hope among the state’s senior citizens, many of whom had previously lost faith in the possibility of receiving their hard-earned pension benefits.
His actions have demonstrated a strong commitment to the welfare of retirees and have been widely welcomed by the pensioner community.
