Morocco’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Moha Tagma, has reaffirmed the strong and enduring relationship between Nigeria and Morocco, describing both countries as long-standing partners committed to advancing Africa’s unity, peace and prosperity.
Tagma made the remarks on Thursday night in Abuja while delivering his welcome address at a reception marking Morocco’s Throne Day, the annual celebration of the ascension of King Mohammed VI to the throne.
Morocco celebrates Throne Day every July 30, with this year’s event marking the 27th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s reign.
The ambassador said the two countries had built a relationship founded on friendship, mutual respect and expanding cooperation across key sectors.
“From trade to culture, from security to agriculture, our partnership is destined to grow even stronger.

“As we celebrate Throne Day, we reaffirm Morocco’s commitment to continue working hand in hand with Nigeria under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Bola Tinubu to build a prosperous and integrated Africa,” he said.
Tagma highlighted the Nigeria-Morocco African Atlantic Gas Pipeline (AAGP) as one of the most significant milestones in bilateral relations.
He noted that ECOWAS member states recently signed the Intergovernmental Agreement on the landmark project in Freetown, describing it as a transformational initiative that would benefit more than 400 million people across 13 African countries.
“Initiated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the late President Muhammadu Buhari in 2016, and supported by President Bola Tinubu, this will be more than a pipeline. “It will be a pipeline of prosperity, integration and dignity,” he said.
According to the envoy, the project reflects the shared vision of both nations for a connected, resilient and self-reliant Africa.
He said the gas pipeline would form the backbone of integration in the Northwest African Atlantic region, drawing parallels with the role coal and steel played in the formation of the European Union.
“This is the first major project to unite so many countries. It will reshape the West African coastline and position the region at the center of global energy geopolitics,” he said.
Speaking on the significance of Throne Day, Tagma described it as a symbol of national unity, renewed allegiance and an opportunity to reflect on Morocco’s progress under King Mohammed VI.
He said the celebration also underscored the enduring friendship between Morocco and Nigeria, as well as the shared aspirations of African nations.
“Throne Day is not only a celebration of the Monarch but also of the Moroccan people and our shared values of unity, progress, solidarity and openness to Africa and the world.
“Over the past 27 years, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty the King, Morocco has undergone profound transformation, positioning itself as a hub of stability, innovation and sustainable development,” he said.
The ambassador added that Morocco remained firmly committed to its African identity, with South-South cooperation and continental integration at the core of King Mohammed VI’s foreign policy.
“Our guiding principle is simple: the development of Africa by Africans, for Africans,” he said.
The reception attracted government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, business leaders and other stakeholders from the public and private sectors.
