Nigeria Finishes Second with 120 Medals at 13th African Games

Nigeria has finished second at the 13th African Games after raking in 47 gold, 33 silver and 40 bronze medals in 25 sports at the competition.

Nigeria got its highest medals in weightlifting as the team brought home 32 medals; 16 gold, 10 silver and six bronze medals.

In athletics, which was Nigeria’s second most productive sport at the Games, 22 medals were won.

Nigeria also raked in 12 medals in wrestling, eight gold medals in boxing and 13 medals in arm wrestling.

Egypt finished first with 189 medals, comprising 101 gold, 46 silver and 42 bronze.

South Africa took the third spot on the medals table with 106 medals, 32 gold, 32 silver and 42 bronze medals

Algeria finished fourth with 114 medal, 29 gold, 38 silver and 47 bronze medals, while Tunisia completed the fifth with 87 medals, 21 gold, 27 silver and 39 bronze.

Hosts Ghana finished in sixth position with 19 gold, 29 silver and 20 bronze medals.

The next edition of the African Games will be held in Cairo, Egypt, in 2027.
