The renewed partnership was discussed during a strategic meeting at the NAQS headquarters in Abuja, where a USDA delegation led by Mr Gustavo Galdo met with the Comptroller-General of NAQS, Dr Vincent Isegbe, and members of the agency’s management team.
The meeting focused on practical measures to deepen agricultural trade between Nigeria and the United States by addressing productivity, financing and policy challenges affecting the sector.
The discussions also explored strategies to improve productivity in the poultry and aquaculture subsectors, expand access to trade and finance, reduce non-tariff trade barriers and create a more enabling environment for agribusinesses in both countries.
Speaking during the meeting, Isegbe reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to strengthening agricultural trade through enhanced collaboration and effective regulatory support.
He described agricultural trade between Nigeria and the United States as vital to the economic prosperity of both countries, noting that stronger cooperation would drive Nigeria’s economic growth while contributing to Africa’s broader agricultural development.

Speaking on behalf of the USDA Food for Progress Nigeria team, Galdo reiterated the programme’s commitment to supporting initiatives that improve agricultural productivity, expand market access, strengthen trade systems and enhance the competitiveness of Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
Both parties agreed that sustained collaboration between NAQS and the USDA Food for Progress Nigeria programme would play a key role in promoting safe, efficient and mutually beneficial agricultural trade between Nigeria and the United States.
