Niger Traditional Ruler Ahmed Yusuf Reportedly Killed After Warning Bandits

Bandits have reportedly killed the District Head of Gallah, Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf, a traditional ruler under the Borgu Emirate in Niger State, after he allegedly warned the gunmen to stay away from his community.

The monarch, also known as the Magajin Garin Gallah of Agwara Local Government Area, was reportedly attacked at his palace over the weekend.

According to reports obtained by The News Chronicle on Tuesday, the bandits targeted the traditional ruler after he allegedly warned against their infiltration of the community.

The attack was first disclosed by security analyst Bakatsine in a post on X.

Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf was also reported to be a brother of the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, CON.

The circumstances surrounding the attack, including the exact time it occurred and whether other casualties were recorded, remained unclear at the time of filing this report.

The Office of the Chairman of Borgu Local Government Council confirmed the death of the district head, describing the incident as “particularly painful and deeply disturbing.”

The Borgu Emirate also confirmed his death in a statement issued on Sunday, August 23, 2026, by Ibrahim Toriq Abubakar.

“The Borgu Emirate mourns the painful loss of two great sons and princes of the Emirate: Alhaji Garba Alhassan (Tafidan Borgu) and Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf (Magajin Garin Gallah),” the statement said.

The emirate described their deaths as a major loss to their families, the traditional institution and the people of Borgu.

It extended condolences to the deceased’s families, relatives, friends and associates, while praying to Almighty Allah to forgive their shortcomings and grant them eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus.

The emirate also prayed for continued peace, unity and protection for the Borgu Emirate, as well as strength for the bereaved families to bear the loss.
