Three suspects have reportedly been taken into custody by the Niger State Police Command for their involvement in motorcycle theft.
The ages of the suspects vary between 20 and 50, namely Tanko Yusuf, Dan Asabe, Mohammed Adamu, and Audu Lemu.
The apprehension unfolded as a consequence of the police responding to the suspicious behavior of Adamu, who was found loitering in the Garatu neighborhood within the state’s Bosso Local Government Area.
Subsequent to Adamu’s detainment, the authorities managed to locate and apprehend the remaining suspects at different locations.
The Niger State Police Command, as conveyed by Wasiu Abiodun, its spokesperson, shared that the arrest was facilitated by credible information provided by local residents.
The briefing to reporters in Minna on Friday shed light on the collaborative effort between law enforcement and the community in addressing criminal activities.
According to statements from the detained suspects, they allegedly targeted motorcycles involved in accidents, asserting that those belonging to injured victims were less expensive.
In contrast, motorcycles owned by deceased victims were perceived as more valuable due to being often sold with accompanying keys, with the belief that no one would come forward to claim them.
This incident underscores the importance of community involvement in assisting law enforcement, and it highlights the perpetrators’ strategy of exploiting the circumstances surrounding motorcycle accidents for their illicit gains.
