Niger State Governor Vows to Clamp Down on Extremist Preachers

—

The Niger State Government has announced plans to take firm action against religious clerics who promote extremist views.

The Director General of the State Religious Affairs Commission, Sheikh Umar Faruk, disclosed this during an interview with Tsale One Jima and Monitored By The News Chronicle, after a meeting with the State Council of Clerics at his office in Minna.

Sheikh Umar said the government has instructed security agencies to begin taking action against any cleric preaching hate, extremism, or intolerance. He emphasized that only God has the authority over heaven and hell, and warned preachers against using their sermons to spread fear or division.

He also spoke about a young cleric named Muhammad from the Suleja area, who was previously suspended. According to him, the cleric has shown signs of deliberately violating the law, and the government will no longer tolerate such behavior.
