Niger State Government Plans to Transition Key Facilities Off National Grid

—

The Niger State Government is set to transition several key facilities, including the Government House, IBB Specialist Hospital, Water Board, and the State Secretariat, off the national power grid.
The State Governor announced this on Sunday during a meeting with the management of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), Minna Area Office, at the Government House in Minna.
He stated that the government plans to establish a 200-megawatt solar park and other initiatives to provide a reliable alternative power supply.
He also noted that all streetlights in the state have already been converted to solar, and efforts are underway to install 25-megawatt mini-grids across all local government areas.
Additionally, the government is partnering with a private company to supply 10,000 homes with solar power systems of varying capacities within the next month. The goal is to reach 100,000 homes by the end of the year.
While working to provide alternative power sources for residents, the Governor emphasized the importance of AEDC improving electricity supply in the state, especially as Niger State hosts four hydroelectric dams.
