The Niger State Government has unveiled ambitious plans to introduce Smart Schools across the region, aiming to revolutionize education delivery in line with the demands of the 21st century.
This initiative, confirmed by Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), underscores a commitment to support state governments in modernizing their educational institutions.
During a visit to the Science Model Primary School Chaza Suleja, one of five schools earmarked for transformation into smart institutions, Dr. Bobboyi reaffirmed UBEC’s dedication to assisting states in this educational paradigm shift.
The decision to establish these smart schools reflects Niger State’s determination to align with the Federal government’s Smart School program, aiming to enhance both access to and the quality of education across the state.
Alhaji Muhammad Ibrahim, Chairman of the Niger State Universal Basic Education Commission, emphasized the state’s aspiration to elevate its schools to global standards, ensuring that young Nigerians receive a high-quality education that equips them to compete internationally.
This initiative has gained momentum with a recent visit from a team led by Dr. Hafsat Lawal Kontagora from UBEC’s Digital Resource Centre, which assessed the readiness of schools in Minna and surrounding areas for smart education implementation.
Dr. Kontagora expressed satisfaction with the progress, noting that numerous state governments have embraced the Federal Government’s Smart Schools Programme, signaling a shift towards providing education that fosters creativity, innovation, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
The Federal Government’s efforts have already yielded 37 smart schools nationwide, each equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, with 14 already operational and engaged in teaching and learning activities.
This concerted effort between federal and state entities underscores a collective commitment to modernize educational infrastructure and methodologies, ultimately empowering Nigerian students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the global arena.
