Niger Mining Tragedy: Atiku Offers Full Scholarship to Young Miner

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has pledged to sponsor the education of a young miner from Niger State, Yusuf Aliyu, to the highest level he is able to attain.

Atiku said his “heart breaks” whenever he watches a viral video of Aliyu recounting his experience at a mining site in the state.

The video drew widespread attention amid reports that 37 miners died in Niger State, triggering public outrage and calls for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Reacting to the situation, Atiku expressed concern over the plight of Aliyu and others caught up in the incident, saying he could not watch their ordeal without taking action.

He subsequently pledged to provide Aliyu with a scholarship, covering his education through university and to the highest level he is capable of attaining.

The former Vice President’s gesture comes as questions continue to mount over the reported deaths of the miners and the circumstances surrounding their detention by security personnel in Niger State.
