The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State has declared that the party will not relent to ensure that Barrister David Umar, the senatorial candidate of the party in the August 30 by-election for Niger East, is victorious .
The publicity secretary of the party, Mr Jonathan Vasta, told LEADERSHIP in an interview that all plan against the party’s candidate had been uncovered in some local government areas and that the party was on top of the situation.
He said that the party’s men all over Niger East were fully mobilized to ensure that the political tactics meant to compromise the forthcoming election were neutralized to ensure that people’s votes count.
“The election in Osun has really awakened the consciousness of the people not to be intimidate by onslaught of security men, to protect their votes and be ahead of any attempt for compromise and manipulation,” he noted.
Vasta said that it would be better for the integrity of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) if the present Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Niger State, Dr Emmanuel Onucheyo, is posted out of the state before the election as it was done in Osun State.
According to him, considering the facts that the party has presented against the REC’s ability to conduct free and fair election, it will not be out of place if the REC is posted out.
“We know he collected money from government. He was a PDP governorship aspirant in Kogi State; ordinarily, his sympathy will be for PDP,” Vasta added.
